July 2006 Canoe day and Sport Relief Gala
Clitheroe Dolphins proved they can get just as wet messing about in boats as they do swimming.
Over 25 members of Clitheroe’s young swimmers enjoyed a fun two hour session at Lake Chatburn hosted by Clitheroe Canoe Club.
The morning was made even more pleasant by the high temperatures which soared into the’80’s. Families took advantage of the
good weather to enjoy picnics on the bank, whilst the swimmers learnt new skills on the water.
The following Monday the swimmers returned to their usual pursuit when they staged a ‘Sport Relief’ Gala.
Competing under the banners of World Cup semi-finalists Germany, Portugal, Italy and France everyone contributed to an
exciting evening and raised £220 for the national charity. After Portugal had emerged the victors the swimmers took a rest
as they watched five of the Club’s coaches go ‘head to head’ in the 50 Metre Freestyle.
The result saw, meat pie powered Head Coach, Dave Kenny, eclipsed by ‘Spring Chicken’ Debbie Fox.

strongest team of the four teams competing and took the top spot with 153

Clitheroe hosted the next fixture on Friday evening with Chorley, Colne and
Garstang the visitors. A strong Chorley team dominated the early relay

regained some ground in the individual events by winning the majority of

demonstrated their league topping credentials by extending their lead. Final

May 2006 North Lancs Swim League Division 2, Home
Clitheroe Dolphins are the NL Swim League Division 2 Champions and return to the top division for the first time since 1992, the year that Take That had their first Top Ten Hit.
The Dolphins hosted the season's final fixture on Friday night and knew a first or second place would secure them the title. That requirement was never really in doubt but winning this final fixture proved a real tussle with Blackpool leading at all the points calls. Clitheroe though were never too far behind but come the final event the cannon, the Dolphins had to win. A superb six swimmer swim brought Clitheroe home first and with Blackpool making a faulty change over in their pursuit the final points call was eagerly awaited. A first place tie for Clitheroe and Blackpool brought the season to a victorious end.
Speaking after the contest Head Coach, Dave Kenny, said "This will stay in the memory a long time, to win the title in the last fixture, at home, capped a fantastic season. Its been a great team effort from our swimmers, coaching staff and a very proactive and ambitious committee who make the Club tick"

March 2006 North Lancs Swim League Division 2, Lancaster
Clitheroe Dolphins contributed hugely to another tight fixture and whilst they had to settle for third place their efforts on the night mean the Club still hold on to the top place in NL Swim League Division 2.
The fixture started with Lancaster, the hosts, taking an early lead and with Chorley staying close it looked like a two horse race. Going into the final quarter Cltheroe trailed Chorley by 14 and Lancaster by 17 points. But Dolphins have a growing reputation for strong finishes and those last twelve events once again witnessed the Clitheroe charge. Unlike last month's fixture, this time they just ran out of events finishing just 1 point short of Chorley and 5 behind Lancaster.
Clitheroe's swimmers recorded 27 personal best's and there were 7 individual event wins by Thomas Carter Freestyle and Backstroke, Luke Tasker Butterfly, Hayleigh Jones Butterfly, Peter Jones Backstroke and Butterfly, Megan Philip Butterfly.
In addition the junior boys team won both of their relays Thomas carter, Luke Tasker, Isaac Banki-Williamson, Joshua Blysniuk and Alex Giles.
The freestyle cannon made it two consecutive wins with Elizabeth Lovatt, Luke Tasker, Hayleigh Jones, William Capstick, Megan Philip and Peter Jones ending the evening with a convincing win.

February 2006 North Lancs Swim League Division 2, St Annes
Clitheroe Dolphins opened the North Lancs Swim League 2006 Season in fine style with a thrilling win at the seaside.
The team started on the backfoot with late substitutions , two nine-year-olds made early debuts in under 12 events
and a supporter swam for a friend who was taken ill at the venue. Two senior swimmers were also swimming
for the first time, giving the team an unfamilair look. And with Dave Kenny also making his coaching debut
for the team, no one dared to think of victory. A season of consolidation perhaps? Not a bit of it!
In a very tight four way contest, Clitheroe’s swimmers were lying in third place, going into the final phase,
trailing leaders Chorley by 13 points and hosts Newton Hall Blackpool by just 6 points.
This was the Dolphins’ moment 6 wins in the last 12 but one events took the team to a comfortable second place
and a win in the last event would eclipse the leaders Chorley. To their positions went the Club’s 6 chosen
freestylers. Junior, Intermediate, Senior, girl then boy, one length each. The crowd hushed, under
starter’s orders. Take your marks....An outstanding win, girl and boy, start to finish from the front,
never headed, and a very famous victory and top of Division 2 for the first time since 1991.

January 2006 North Lancs Age Group Championships
Clitheroe Dolphins had a very successful
weekend at the North Lancashire Swimming and Water Polo Association annual
Age Group Championships held at Blackpool. Fifteen swimmers
attended the swimming gala and came away with a total of two first places a
second place and six third places. However all the swimmers managed to
better the previous best times in all events entered.
Tom Carter steadied
the team's nerves with a 1st in 11 year 50m
backstroke and third in the 100m Backstroke. 9 year old Bethany Jones proved
that her best stroke is breaststroke by taking 1st in the 50m
event and 3rd in the 200m. Meanwhile older sister Hayleigh came 3rd
in the 14 year old 100m butterfly event. Anna Carey (age 11) also proved her
breaststroke technique by finishing 2nd in the 100m and 3rd
in the 200m. Kara Singleton added to the breaststroke medals in the 12 year
old 100m event finishing 3rd. Luke Tasker rounded off a superb
weekend (knocking considerable amounts off all his PBs) by finishing 3rd
in the gruelling 200m Butterfly (12 year old) event. He and close friend
Elliot Noble were both anxious about this event after such a busy weekend.
Coach Dave Kenny, said that this was a tough event to finish
on but he challenged them both to smash the PBs. Luke responded in amazing
style by finishing in a time of 2:56.28 knocking a whole 8 seconds off his
previous best time. Elliot having swam the most events of anyone still
managed to knock 6 seconds off his previous best time finishing in 5th
place with a time of 3:04.46. This last swim for Elliot elevated him to 9th
overall in his age group using the BAGCAT points system averaging all the
events entered.
Other swimmers from Clitheroe who all beat the
previous best times were Rebekah Rodgers(9), Elizabeth Lovatt, Sarah Green
(11), Harry Paige
and Jack Dewhurst (9), Issac Banki-Williamson (10), Philip Sellars, Victoria
Rodgers (12).
Chief Coach Dave Kenny commented
“This is my first individual gala with the swimmers since taking over as
chief coach in October last year. Due
to the closure for
maintenance of Ribblesdale pool, we'd lost most of our vital
December training. I
would have been happy if the swimmers equalled their
personal best times. For them all to beat the PBs in such fine style really
pleased me. The swimmers were a real credit to themselves and were a joy to
spend the weekend with. They should all be very proud of themselves and I
hope it has given them the incentive to train harder and go on to better
this performance. This year was one
of the largest entries
into this competition for some years, but I now have to build upon this to
get even more swimmers competing for their Club”
