September 2005 Micro Swim Off
Alas it was not to be, Clitheroe Dolphins will have to wait at least another year to reach top flight after finishing 4th, 2 go up, in the Division 2 swim Off.
Not helped by two disqualifications in two relays that they were winning. It became clear early in the gala that we had a mountain to climb, and how many Dolphins have you seen on Everest?
Nevertheless the experience will be used to good effect and we wish Leyland and Blackburn success in their venture to the 1st division.

May 2005 NORTH LANCS LEAGUE DIV2 Blackpool
litheroe Dolphins had a busy week of competition. On Tuesday they had a trip to the seaside for their last gala of the season. Three of the four teams had plenty to swim for. For hosts,Blackpool, is was their last ever gala at the Lido pool before their summer move to a new £4.5million facility, for 2nd place Southport a win would secure the title and for the Dolphins a high scoring victory would see them snatch that top spot.
The Gala lived up to expectations with a three way tussle throughout and, with just one event to go, it was Clitheroe who had edged in to a 5 point lead and when Guy Isherwood brought the cannon team home in first by a finger nail it looked to have secured a famous victory. It was not to be, a harsh decision disqualified their cannon effort, lost 8 points and a gala win.
Final result Southport 137, Clitheroe 134, Blackpool 133, Leyland B 88

May 2005 MICRO LEAGUE DIV2 ROSEGROVE
Clitheroe Dolphins junior team moved in to second place in the North West Micro League Division 2 with a nail biting win in their latest fixture. The four way contest saw the Dolphins take on hosts Rosegrove, Leyland B and Colne.
The gala started well with a win in the first event the Girls 9yr Freestyle Relay, further relays wins in the Boys U11 Freestyle, Girls U11 Medley and an individual win for Bethany Jones in the Freestyle gave the team a solid start putting them in 2nd place overall at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the team struggled to maintain the momentum allowing Colne to extend their lead to 11 points and Rosegrove and Leyland to join the Dolphins on the same points. Only Luke Tasker could lift the gloom with a fine win in the U11 Butterfly.
Going in to the 3rd quarter Clitheroe started their comeback, two wins by Isaac Banki Williamson in the U10 Freestyle and Butterfly, Felicity Brown and Luke Tasker in the U11 Freestyle and Emily Pietrzak in the Butterfly cut down Colne's lead to nine points, unfortunately Rosegrove had had an outstanding quarter and had eased in to second place.
Moving in to the final quarter, the Gala had turned in to a three way battle with Clitheroe the most to do. Roared on by a large following in the 178 spectator crowd the Dolphins responded magnificently. Anna Carey and Jacob Abrahams took care of the U11 Breaststroke, a comfortable win for the girls 9 year Medley team then four consecutive relay wins in the U10 Boys Freestyle, U11 Girls Medley, U11 Boys Medley and U12 Girls Freestyle pushed the team in to first place for the first time on the night and with just two events remaining proved too much for the opposition.
Final Score Clitheroe 126, Colne 123, Rosegrove 115, Leyland 105.
The result means that, with two rounds still to swim, Clitheroe now occupy one of the promotion playoff positions.

April 2005 NORTH LANCS LEAGUE DIV2 Home and Lancashire Champs Week 2
Dolphins continued their upward mobility with a fine victory in the North Lancs Swim League on Friday night.
The newly promoted Clitheroe Club played host to, top of table, Southport, 2nd placed Chorley and Blackpool at Ribblesdale pool. In a thrilling encounter the result was in the balance right to the very last event.
It was Chorley who set the early pace with 3 wins in the first 4 events but the Dolphins were not far behind and after 12 events were just 2 points behind Chorley with wins by William Capstick, making his debut in the 50m freestyle, Beth Highton in the 50m Backstroke and a Ladies team win in the Freestyle relay.
The Dolphins pulled in to a healthy 7 point lead after 24 events with wins by Louise Highton in the 50m Freestyle and the Ladies team in the Medley Relay, five second places also contributed to Clitheroe's strong position going into the final section.
Chorley and Southport though had not conceded and demonstrated their high league status with some very strong swims, within 4 events the Dolphins' lead evaporated as they slipped back in to third place and not helped when the intermediate Girls were disqualified, whilst leading in the freestyle relay, for a faulty changeover.
Undeterred the team set about clawing back the points and their luck turned when in the Boys Junior Medley Relay two teams were disqualified. The Dolphins team of Luke Tasker, Jacob Abrahams and Phillip Sellars and William Capstick seized the opportunity finishing in first place and maximum points. Back in the lead and in no mood to relinquish it two further victories from Hannah Pym in the Backstroke and Mark Jaggs in the Breaststroke proved to be just enough to secure the narrowest of victories in years.
Final Score Clitheroe 127 points, Chorley 126 points, Southport 125 points, Blackpool 106 Points
Individual winners were:-
Junior Boys Freestyle William Capstick
Intermediate Girls Backstroke Hannah Pym

The second treat for the Dolphins was a hugely successful Pre Micro-League Gala. This was held at Ribblesdale Pool and there was standing room only. The Gala involved most of the club’s 6 – 12yrs old swimmers and was good experience for those who will be representing the Club in this season’s Micro-League galas, the first of which will be held at Blackburn in early March.

The youngest competitor in the gala was Elizabeth Greenwood who celebrated her 6th birthday in December.
